This family ice cream stand in East Somerville is in a somewhat gritty neighborhood, but their frappes are anything but. They use some of the richest, most satisfyingly tasty ice cream I've eaten. Highly recommended.

since herrell's is a harvard square establishment, it's bound to be a bit pricey. but the shake is so appropriately thick and rich that, like any good date, it seems larger than its cup size. but beware of the place on warm days, the lines go out the door!

This was by far the crappiest malt I have ever had...it was WARM when I went to drink it! I probably should have known when the guy behind the counter had to ask the other girl there what malt was. I was totally craving a good malt and this one just ruined my whole day.

Like drinking a headache. Importantly, this McDonald's location has not upgraded its shake selection to the superior "Triple Thick" variety (still powder-based, but a little thicker and more substantial) - the result is a flashback straight to third grade, as I cough and retch my way through a milkshake that seems like a good idea at first, but gets progressively warmer and more watery in the delightful midday sun.

The nadir of fast-food milkshakes may well be the White Castle on 32nd Street in Manhattan, where personal hygiene goes straight out the window (once I found multiple long, thick black hairs in my shake, and I recall no one fitting that description behind the counter!), but the McDonald's on Tremont is close. In March I was all excited about the return of the Shamrock Shake, but was greeted by a confused trainee struggling to fit her mind around the concept and her lips around the sibilant word: "Sham...rock?" Dejected, I swore off shakes for a solid month and a half. My most recent Mickey D's experience leads me to a similar fate.

By the end, I decide to ask that one crazy guy who stands by the fountain in the Common wearing the full-length quilted parka if he wants some, but he takes a look inside and says, "No, man." As usual, he knows what's up.

You know that scene in Pulp Fiction where Mia Wallace and Vincent Vega are talking about "five-dollar milkshakes," and Vincent isn't sure that any milkshake is worth five dollars? Well this one is. Except they only charge you about $3.50

It's not perfect, as the perfect milkshake will not leave a chunk of ice cream at the bottom. Although I give Annie at the counter props for putting anything in for a milkshake. +1 for allowing the Milky Way Milkshake, which gives a great caramel blast when you least expect it.

This is one of my favorite pizza places. I should have stayed away when I saw the outdated 70s poster of milkshakes... but I was craving one. I don't even think they had milkshakes on the menu. It was surprisingly salty and made me sick to my stomach. The pizza is awesome, but don't get adventurous: stick to a drink on the menu.

This was a very expensive cold glass of milk. Any milkshake that doesn't require a little bit of straw action is worthless in my world. They make milkshakes thicker for an extra buck. I bet even then it would suck.
